The Mayor of St Edmundsbury, a town in Britain, was recently elected less than a week ago, but the former driving instructor launched his car through the disabled parking spot into the automatic doors of a local grocery store.
The 73-year-old Terry Buckle crashed his car yesterday into a Tesco Express store. All 4 wheels of the vehicle entered the doorway.
East Anglian Daily Times reported that the new mayor was trying to park into a disabled parking spot, when he accidentally sent his car flying into the store.
Buckle was taken to a local hospital to be treated for whiplash and shoulder injuries. His pride as an ex-bus driving instructor was cast out when he created his first accident in 56 years.
"I know people might think it is a bit of a joke that I have become mayor and the first thing I have done is wreck my car but I cannot see the funny side of it. The thought that the car could have hit someone left me really shaken up. I am just so thankful that nobody was in the doorway when the car went through," commented Buckle.
Buckle is so disturbed by the accident that he has promised to stop driving.
