World Champ Advice: Want To Achieve Better Work-Life Balance? Don't Check Email On Weekends

The world champion of women's world cycling, Lizzie Armistead, shared her simple rule for keeping her work life from crawling and invading her personal life, as reported by the Business Insider.

"I don't look at my emails on the weekend or after 6 o'clock in the day. I'm old fashioned. I think it's really important to have that down time. It was just the way I was brought up as a kid. I remember if the telephone rang after 9 o'clock in the house, my mother would say, "Who's ringing at this time?' We just wouldn't answer the phone," the Englishwoman who has been torching the competition stated.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also said that we all need to focus less on our gadgets and more on the real world - which means, not thinking about the last work-related email you received. Armistead, who is now 27-years-old, rides for the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team. She has been acing the game lately. On Sunday, she nailed the all-out drag race to the line during one of the biggest one-day races on the calendar which is the Tour of Flanders. She also dominated Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Strade Bianche earlier this year. She won cycling's crown jewel as one of her greatest victories to date which happened in Richmond, Virginia.

There has been a greater pressure in terms of work since she became a champion, which only made her desire to balance her work life and personal life even more. "I think I'm managing it quite well. There were times in the off season where the balance would kind of run away from me, when I've been a little too busy off the bike, and that affected my performance. It's about having the ability to say no, and accepting the fact that there is that responsibility to take the job seriously especially as a female athlete," Armistead said.
