11 elderly people in a Sydney nursing home was burned alive by their nurse. The nurse stood trial in New South Wales state Supreme Court and pleads guilty to his crime.
The police had just questioned him hours before the arson occurred. The arsonist was found guilty of theft over prescription drugs that were at the home.
The nurse appeared on television after the event, he detailed his rescuing efforts, being on duty, for the people trapped in the Quakers Hill home in 2011.
The arsonist will likely be imprisoned for life for his crime.
His plead was entered for causing extreme bodily harm to 8 residents who later died in the hospital, while three of the residents perished during the fire. Some of the residents were blind, others suffer from dementia.
The incident happened at 4:35am, he convinced other nurses to take a break while he set fire to a bed in A2 Wing with a lighter, then he set another fire in the A1 Wing.
Reports say that family of the residents appeared in the courtroom tearful and sobbing.
Some left in the middle of the procession and wept outside.
