A Simi Valley elementary school teacher had been having sexual relations with a 6th grade minor, and has since been arrested and charged.
The mother of two and Simi Valley teacher of Garden Grove Elementary School was arrested with bail set at $2 million. The police claims that she might be planning to leave the country, so that's why the bail was set at such a high number.
The Malia Brooks surrendered at the police station and was the 32-year-old Simi Valley teacher was arrested that day. However, later the arrested Simi valley teacher pleaded not guilty when she appeared in Ventura Country Superior Court.
The Simi valley teacher was arrested on charges of one count of lewd act upon a child, one count of oral copulation of a person under 14, and three counts of genital penetration by a foreign object with a person under 14. The Simi valley teacher was at least 10 years older than the victim.
The Simi Valley teacher's attorney claims that the woman had been suffering from mental illness and was receiving treatment prior to the arrest. She had been on paid administrative leave from March until June, when she was arrested by the police.
"It's presently an investigation by the Simi Valley Police Department, and until there is a conclusion, we are not going to make any comments," Assistant Superintendent of the arrested teacher's school, Cary Dritz.
"I'm very disturbed by the whole situation, in the fact that people no longer, in our community or state, can be good teachers, because [the arrested Simi Valley teacher was not] innocent until proven guilty," one parent Mindy Verdina said in March.
