Former NBA star Allen Iverson is facing yet another troubling allegation, this time under the claims of his ex-wife that he kidnapped their children.
According to a TMZ.com report, Iverson's ex-wife is accusing him of abducting their children from her. Tawanna Iverson, who has sole custody, has filed legal documents against her husband, demanding that her five children be returned to her. She states that Iverson had recently asked for and been granted permission to take their children on a vacation to Charlotte, N.C., between May 22-26. However, Iverson never brought the children back.
Tawanna believes that the former basketball star is keeping their kids at a hotel in Georgia. Earlier this month, she also accused Iverson of failing to pay $40,000 in child support. At his divorce hearing in February, Iverson was criticized by the judge for his poor parenting skills and lack of attention to his children. "[Allen Iverson] does not know how to manage [his five] children, has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development," the judge said.
This incident adds onto a number of ongoing battles Iverson has had with his ex-wife. Earlier this year, the two settled their divorce with Tawanna receiving a $3 million payout, child support, and a percentage of future profits from his Reebok endorsement.
Iverson has faced an onslaught of other problems in the past. He was alleged to have been facing alcohol and gambling issues shortly after leaving the Philadelphia 76ers in 2010 to take care of his daughter during her illness. At around the same time, he admitted publicly on Twitter that he was going through "some very tough times."
