Beyonce's "Lemonade", her 6th studio album, is a concept visual album containing 12 tracks from a variety of genres. While the 13th track, titled "Lemonade", is an hour long visual work featuring emotions, ideas and life situations through diverse images, prose and poetry and addressing the "Black Lives Matter" movement.
"Lemonade" was aired on HBO the same day the album was released and made available for online on Tidal, a subscription based online music service for lossless high fidelity streaming - acquired by Jay Z and, along with other stakeholders, co-owned by Beyonce.
Tidal described the album's conceptualization as "every woman's journey of self-knowledge and healing." Along with track lyrics that seemed to hint at anger and betrayal, questions were raised as to whether the work had hinted at the couple's marriage almost falling apart due to Jay Z's infidelity.
Jay Z was supposed to come out with his own album in response to "Lemonade" telling his side of the story and was supposed to have started recording music for it.
Many questions arose after the album came out but the couple refused to do an interview to clear things up. Instead they had opted to air their differences with music.
Jay Z's album, which he planned to do himself, later evolved into a collaborative effort between the married artists. The album is supposedly done and shall be released on Tidal.
As it later turns out, Jay Z himself had helped and supported Beyonce with the creation of "Lemonade". He had understood the reasoning behind her wanting to air their problems in such fashion.
While there has been a form of "lemon" involved with the accusations for infidelity, one writer wondered whether the "alleged secret album" is nothing more than an effort to increase the user base of Tidal.
