A Webster resident, Tyler Ocweija, had driven a boat north of Sodus Bay on Wednesday, and had crashed the boat into the East Breakwall near Sodus Bay's entrance.
Police report shows that the 19-year-old Tyler Ocweija had been charged with operating faster than 5 miles per hour within 100 feet of shore, boating while intoxicated, reckless operation of a vessel, reckless endangerment, and refusal to submit to a preliminary breath test.
Fortunately for the alleged drunk driver, the three passengers that flew off the boat were had only one ankle broken and minor injuries. The trio's names were Michael Dodge of Webster, Nichaolas Pizicuto of Rochester, and Liam Wheatley of Penfield. All the passengers of the boat were age 19.
The teens had been able to struggle out of the waters after the crash. With Tyler Ocweija arrested by the police afterwards for the Sodus boat crash incident.
After the arrest, Tyler Ocweija had been released from jail and will return to Sodus Town Court at at later time this year.
The fireworks were lit in the skylight when the crash happened, says the incident report. According to CNN, the boat was carrying the passengers so fast, that the three passengers were hurled over a breakwall and plunged into Lake Ontario.
A number of other accidents have happened during the independence day display. In California, more than 20 people were harmed in a fireworks display. The fireworks were sent off course and hit several people in the panicking crowd.
