Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is planning to announce their latest restructuring plans this week after their legendary product XBox lost its department head Don Mattrick.
The restructuring plan is slated to be disclosed this Thursday according to sources near Microsoft. All Things D reports that the plan has not yet been settled and there are still many major aspects to be discussed and reviewed as CEO Steve Ballmer is keeping the changes secret to Microsoft's officials within the company. The ominous lack of discussion leads many top level employees worried that they might be axed in the upcoming restructuring.
"It feels like it's going to be titanic — that Steve is doing this change for his legacy. And it's the first time in a long time that it feels like that there will be some major shifts, including some departures," said a person who is near the situation has exclaimed.
The news of the restructuring came as a surprise after the former Microsoft Entertainment chief Don Mattrick left to become the CEO of Zynga last week. It is possible that the two events are quite related.
In the annual shareholder letter released last October, the CEO of the Windows 8 Maker stated his goal clearly that he'll turn Microsoft into a "devices and services company," meaning that the company will no longer be in its prior state with the goal of constant development, but instead will be constantly in check for its relations with customers in their software and hardware platforms.
The upcoming restructuring happens upon possibly myriads of employees amidst constantly added pressures from Microsoft investors. Activist shareholders are urging that the company founded by Bill Gates to create change and accompanying growth. The tech giant's recent initiations of Bing and other server products are proving to need some boost.
