Food Stamps: Government Has Pushed Farm Bill Decision For Later [VIDEO]

The House of Representative has opted to discuss the issue of food stamps later in a separate bill, while the usually linked farm bill was passed in the Republican-majority lawmaking body.

The farm bill has often times been linked to the provision of food stamps; however, this sudden change in the way the discussion of food stamps was involved could also signal some possible changes to way that the benefits would present itself in the future.

The farm bill however, was only passed with a narrow majority, at a 216 vs. 208 vote. The funds behind the food stamps is still called Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and had been related to farm programs in the country, outlined in the farm bill that was just amended as on schedule every five years.

However, this schedule was delayed last month when many were battling and discussing over the ration tickets and some are seriously considering making a cut of the necessity that many Americans rely on.

Some Republicans are claiming that there are many cases of fraud involving the vouchers, and some people who should not be eligible are in fact gaining benefits through the program. Newt Gingrich, who was a 2012 candidate for presidency, claimed that the vouchers not only feed Americans, but also can be utilized for even trips to Hawaii.

The overwhelming cost of the program, which has doubled since 2008, is making it a firm target for republicans looking for spending cuts. $80 billion a year is not a small spending. One in seven Americans nonetheless still rely on the vouchers for daily dishes and might be in a famine if these benefits are taken away.
