Restaurant Owner Lays Off Staff Via Text Message: How Impersonal Are Companies Firings Getting These Days? [VIDEO & REPORT]

Barducci's, an italian bistro had closed on July 4, but the owner notified his staff in an unusual way. 12 employees were told of their immediate lay off through a text message.

The restaurant owner lays off staff via text message, without any previous warnings. Jodi Jackson, who was a cook at the business for 2 years, exclaimed its immorality, "I think it's cowardice."

The SMS statement issued by the employer states: "Despite my efforts there were circumstances that I was not able to address. I wish you all the best and sincerely thank you for everything you have done. Any final payroll checks will be addressed after the accounting has been finalized."

It seems that Kennedy who first generated the cold words is also plagued by embarrassment as Kennedy later replied to a request for comment saying, "Unfortunately businesses are forced to close across Orlando every day especially in the restaurant sector. I am working to resolve issues quickly including final paychecks as quickly as possible"

However, 10 days since the restaurant owner lays off staff via text message, the workers still had not received their paychecks. The laborers are now only concerned about obtaining the money that Kennedy had made off of them.

In 2010, another trucking company also closed unexpectedly and informed their staff by text message. The fired employees were stranded on the roads as their business credit cards no longer worked, and some of them were unable to obtain gas to come home.
