Recent Charlie Hunnam 2016 news speculated that the "Sons of Anarchy" star may be set to return for the "Pacific Rim 2" cast. There have been claims that the actor will reprise his role as Raleigh Becket.
Movie News Guide reported that "Pacific Rim 2" has been confirmed to be entitled "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom." The Jaegers are said to be even cooler, bigger and meaner.
There are speculations that Charlie Hunnam will be reprising his role as Raleigh Becket. Other "Pacific Rim 2" cast who are believed to be returning from the original film are Idris Elba (Stacker Pentecost), Rinko Kikuchi (Mako Mori) and Ron Perlman (Hannibal Chau).
Charlie Hunnam has a lot of projects going on as of the moment. He is set to appear in "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword," slated for release on Mar. 24 next year along with "Sherlock Holmes" star Jude Law.
"He's a bit rough around the edges, but he's basically a survivor," Hunnam told EW about his "King Arthur" character. "There's definitely a harder edge than people would imagine."
MNG noted that with the "Pacific Rim 2" release date still two years away, Charlie Hunnam can still make it on time for production. The sequel is expected to premiere on Feb. 23, 2018.
It was previously reported that "Star Wars" actor John Boyega has been confirmed for the "Pacific Rim 2" cast. Steven S. DeKnight has been announced to be replacing Guillermo del Toro as director. Scott Eastwood is believed to be in "early talks" for the sequel.
Guillermo del Toro along with Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Jon Jashni will produce the film. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
According to Collider, the plot of "Pacific Rim 2" "will take place a considerable time" after the events of the original film. The sequel could focus on the story of Boyega's character and could be the reason why Charlie Hunnam has not been confirmed to reprise his role as Raleigh Becket.
