There's been a lot of buzz surrounding a potential "Sons of Anarchy" Season 8 and a spin-off series focusing on the beginnings of the bike groups. However, there are rumors that Charlie Hunnam is not taking part in the project due to an argument with a fellow co-star.
It's been rumored that Hunnam will no longer reprise his role as Jax Teller in the FX series because of his feud with Kurt Sutter. However, Hunnam and Sutter has since denied the rumors, saying they do not have a beef with one another, and it is certainly not the reason why the "Pacific Rim" actor is not returning to the show.
Meanwhile, the next "Sons of Anarchy" project is more off a spin-off than a continuation of the original show. The spin-off is said to focus on the Mayans, a recurring presence in the original "Sons of Anarchy" show and was once an enemy of Jax.
According to Deadline, FX Networks has begun formulating the script for the "Mayans MC" spin-off, which will be co-created by Sutter and Elgin James. Much like its predecessor "Sons of Anarchy," "Mayans MC" will be a "dark, visceral family drama that takes a new look at the most American of icons, the 1% outlaw, this time reflected through a Latino lens."
In a previous interview, Sutter said that the prequel would be set during the time of the Vietnam war and might have 10 or 12 episodes.
As to why Sutter brought James on board, Variety reported it was because Sutter "wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice. I didn't think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions. Elgin is that voice."
Although casting has been confirmed, there's a huge chance Jimmy Smit's Nero Padilla will play a central role in "Mayans MC."
There are also rumors that Brad Pitt is being considered to play John Teller, Jax's father. Hunnam himself spilled the beans in an interview with Men's Journal, during which he expressed his support for the "Sons of Anarchy" prequel.
"Kurt [Sutter] is trying to get it going. Did you read that about Brad Pitt maybe playing my dad? Brad Pitt as John Teller. How awesome would that be?" Hunnam revealed.
