The recent events in the set of "Criminal Minds" Season 12 had fans unsettled; however, they remained hopeful for the return of one of their favorite characters played by Thomas Gibson, although this is unlikely to happen.
It can be remembered that Gibson was just recently dismissed due to a physical altercation with one of the staff writers, which caused him to be dismissed from "Criminal Minds." Nevertheless, the actor stood firm that the encounter with the staff writer just got a little out of hand, and should have not been a big deal.
In any case, the show seems to have already found a way to move forward with "Criminal Minds" Season 12's storyline by introducing a new character - Damon Gupton. Many fans believe that he will be the replacement of Gibson, which is why the return of the latter seems to be impossible to happen.
The 43-year-old actor, which appeared in shows such as "Bates Motel," "Whiplash" and "La La Land," will be portraying the character of Special Agent Stephen Walker in "Criminal Minds" Season 12. Gupton's Stephen Walker character is a seasoned profiler with superb spy-hunting ability that he will make use of once he joined the counter intelligence division of the FBI.
Accordingly, his character will be introduced in "Criminal Minds" Season 12 episode 8. One of the producers of the show, Erica Mester, even stated that they are excited to welcome Gupton in the growing family of "BAU."
According to reports, When Gibson was dismissed, Aisha Tyler was promoted as a regular cast while Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss will accordingly return in the series. Before Gupton's entrance in "Criminal Minds," Adam Rodriguez has joined the season earlier playing the role of Luke Alvez. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the removal and return of the characters will be good for the show.
Gibson, portraying the role of Aaron Hotchner, will have his last appearance on Oct. 5 episode of "Criminal Minds" Season 12.
