OnePlus recently set a stage on Reddit to entertain questions about their products including OS updates for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus X. Based on the answers stated on that ask me anything forum, it seems like Android version 7.0 Nougat is coming its way to OnePlus 3 while OTA (over-the-air) updates of Android version 6.0.1 Mashmallow has been sent to OnePlus X users. According to Mobi Picker, OnePlus did not drop a specific date as to when Android 7.0 Nougat will be released for OnePlus 3 but the tech company guaranteed that they are actively involved in making it happen soon. Although an unofficial version of Android 7.0 is accessible through CyanogenMod ROM, there is a possibility of getting bugs and issues upon installing it.
On the other hand, OnePlus X users with OxygenOS 2.2.3, 3.1.0, 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 will start getting an over-the-air (OTA) update to OxygenOS 3.1.3 that comes with Android version 6.0.1 Marshmallow in the coming days. The software update includes general improvements and enhancements to the overall performance of the device as well as some bug fixes. OnePlus gave a heads up that users may encounter technicalities with apps like Facebook, Google+ and Facebook Messenger. The anticipated Facebook app issue is fixable by allowing the app to use phone storage. While the Google+ issue can be corrected by uninstalling the app then restart the device then update Google Play Service and restart the device again.
Apart from OnePlus, some manufacturers clinched that they are already in the process of sending software update to their latest smartphone models to Android version 7.0 Nougat. HTC confirms that A9, M9 and HTC 10 will be receiving the update, while Sony listed Xperia Z5, XA Ultra, Z3+, X and X Performance with the exemption of Xperia Z3 as it runs incompatible with Snapdragon processor added by NeuroGadget.
Another statement that OnePlus released during their AMA (Ask Me Anything) forum is that the tech company will not be launching smartwatch or other mobile devices that will use different operating system other than Android. It seem like a confirmatory statement that OnePlus will stay exclusive to Android software moving forward.
