Tahoe Plane Crash Update: Off Duty Nurse Helped Save Wife in Deadly Plane Crash That Killed Palo Alto Man [VIDEO & REPORT]

A Tahoe plane crash have killed Steve Lefton, leaving his passenger wife a widow, at Californian South Lake Tahoe.

The 66-year-old experienced flyer had passed away on impact in the aircraft accident, according to El Dorado County officials. The aircraft involved was a single-engine Mooney M20.

The now widowed 67-year-old Karen Lefton had been hospitalized though her injuries are considered to be in moderate condition, and do not endanger her life. She had been pinned in the wreckage of the plane and was liberated by the rescue team.

Witnesses claim that the plane could not maintain altitude after takeoff and banked sharply into several large pine trees. The plane was flipped upside down and landed on the forest floor.

A fuel leak was had emerged after the tragic incident had happened. Lieutenant Pete Van Arnum, a spokesperson for the El Dorado County Sheriff's office, claims that the plane "had difficulty getting lift."

It is possible that engine problems were the cause of the death of the 20-year-experienced pilot. However, National Transportation Safety Board is still attempting to determine the exact cause of the crash.

An off-duty nurse was walking aoudad in the wooded area and came to the scene first and took care of Karen Lefton to maintain her life. After the emergency team had determined that it was safe, she was removed from the debris of the crash and placed in an ambulance to the hospital.

The Tahoe plane crash had happened at around 11:15 AM on Monday after the single engined small plane took off from the South Lake Tahoe airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
