Available at the same time as the Leap Motion Controller, this new, flash drive looking HDMI dongle might just trump everything else out there in terms of its capabilities.
Noting that the 2-inch device has not yet been tested by Jobs & Hire, Google Chromecast claims that it is capable of streaming music, photos, and video from Netflix, YouTube, Google Play smoothly. The device itself, being affordable at $35 a piece, comes with a stripped down version of Google's chromebooks' platform Chrome OS, so that viewers can also create tabs and serve the internet with the device.
The Apple AirPlay competitor will be able to mirror the displays of phones and tablets, including those that run on Apple's devices. The increased capability can perhaps allow for widespread domination. After syncing content to the TV, the phones or tablets can be freed up to do other tasks, and can even be put to sleep when not used.
The set-top box's new approach to streaming will bring new capabilities to television and transform experiences that other platforms never had before. As the popular search engine corp's device is a small fraction of the sizes of its competitors, effectively hiding behind most television sets, and has a remote that is effectively almost always with the user. The new yet familiar user experience might drive its sales high above expectations.
The web giant's second jab at home entertainment came after they decided to petition to the government to buy off unused spectrum for their Google TV project. New information on the perhaps now abandoned project is difficult to be found.
The Google Chromecast will be available at the same time as the Leap Motion controller on July 28 on Amazon and on Best Buy.
