Nintendo Switch just confirmed that it is getting Unreal Engine 4 Support for its gaming system. This is a quick answer to all the critics sceptical of its capacity to keep up with the power of current generation video game consoles like Sony's Playstation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft's Xbox One, not to mention that Sony's flagship console just got a boost with the release of the upgraded PS4 Pro and the launch of Playstation VR.
Unreal Engine 4 supports most of the current generation games in terms of graphics, most notably blockbuster games like the recent Street Fighter V, Gears of War 4, and even the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 from Square Enix. The partnership between Unreal Engine and Nintendo is intended to help game developers bring their games to the Nintendo Switch world. The only question remains is how game quality will look in the actual games given the feature of Nintendo Switch of game portability. Moreover, fans are excited and critics still sceptical about how Unreal Engine 4 will transform first-party exclusive games for Nintendo such as the upcoming Super Mario games. Nintendo Switch might be the solution to Nintendo's long-running problem of not having enough games to play. Aside from the first-party exclusives like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda, there isn't much to play in Nintendo consoles beyond a few side adventures and mini-games by AAA game developers.
But third-party company partners have now been confirmed for the first time for Nintendo Switch. The confirmation included AAA companies like Bethesda, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Take Two Interactive, EA games among a long list of other huge game developers. From Software, the developers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is also a confirmed partner for Nintendo Switch, but Bloodborne might still be a Playstation exclusive.
Mobile games may also be on the table, taking a shot at the mobile gaming market that seems to be killing the sales of portable gaming consoles. Blizzard, the company behind games like World of Warcraft and Overwatch, teased in one of their tweets from their Hearthstone official account that their popular mobile card game is coming in one form or another to Nintendo Switch.
