She's a law enforcer at day, a musician at night. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has finally come out from her shelf, showing off her talent not just in court, but in opera music as well.
The court woman will serve not justice but only music this coming Nov 12 and will perform as a non-singing Duchess of Krakenthorp role in Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment.
Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg's one-night stage performance will be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, The Washington National Opera announced.
"While the opera is best known for the vocal acrobatics required of its singers, the high-comedy antics of the non-singing role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp often steal the show," the Opera said in a statement.
Ginsburg will then no longer be wearing a black robe but a flowing white gown and flowery top hat to play the Duchess of Krakenthorp in the beloved show by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, NPR's Nina Totenberg reports.
Her upcoming opera performance will be her debut show at her age of 83-year old. The script, however, has been transitioned based on her day's job. It may be her debut performance, but Ginsburg is never new in the stage as she has appeared as an extra on her early age. Well, her experience on the stage could build up some expectations from the audience as they may expect a performance.
Justice Ruth proves that age really doesn't matter as Ginsburg enormously received support and booms opera business. "We definitely sold a lot of tickets today after our announcement," Washington National Opera spokesperson Michael Solomon told Reuters.
Ginsburg was undeniably an opera fan, but she will be performing at the opening of the show only on November 12th. The shows director originally caster her to be on the eight straight show but the judge turned opera musician decline saying she couldn't compromise her day job.
