Car Crashes into Day Care; 3 Children Injured [VIDEO & REPORT]

Three children, two two-year-olds and one five-year old, and one adult have been hospitalized Tuesday after a car crashed into the Christian Academy Daycare on the corner of 27th Street and Monroe in Kansas City, Missouri.

According to KSHB, the accident took place when a large SUV hit a Cadillac, sending it colliding through the front of Kansas City daycare around 1 pm. The SUV also crashed through a wall and into the daycare. There were about 40 children in the daycare at the time of the incident.

After firefighters place support beams to make sure that the building would not break down, both cars were slowly removed from the daycare.

Dozens of Kansas City firefighters responded to the scene. Responders were able to rescue two children who were trapped under the Cadillac using hydraulic equipment. A Kansas City police officer who happened to be in the area helped pull the children out from the debris.

Kansas City police Sgt. Marisa Barnes said, the number of the children injured and the severity of the injuries weren't immediately known.

Some children have been injured in the incident while the driver of the SUV sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Three children were taken to Children's Mercy Hospital, where their injuries ranged from "mild to moderate." Five-year-old Zyaire Davis who suffered a hip fracture when he was hit by the car, stayed overnight at the hospital. The uninjured children were taken to a nearby house to wait for their parents.

The driver of the Cadillac was initially reported to have fled the scene. Police said the owner of the vehicle was not the man inside the car at the time of the crash. The Cadillac owner said he had no idea how his car ended up colliding through the daycare when he arrived at the scene.
