The Syrian city of Aleppo is once again under attack by rebel fighters who launched offensive using mortars and car bombs in an attempt to break the siege of rebel-controlled eastern sections of the city.
Rebel tanks, armored personnel carriers and artillery are firing from the southwest section of the city to counter the government offensive thrusts from the outskirts of Aleppo.
A resident reported that the whole city is engaged in battle resulting in 15 casualties and more than 100 fighters injured. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that mortar bombs rained down on many residential areas in the regime-controlled sections of Western Aleppo.
The continuing heavy battle engagements between Syrian forces and several rebel groups are being watched by SOHR which reported that Jabhet Fateh al-Sham were among those fighting with the rebel groups. Ismael Abdullah, a volunteer rescuer, commented that "It is more than big," when asked how heavy was the fighting that was raging in Aleppo.
Tass News Agency reported that earlier, Russian military authorities requested President Vladimir Putin to once again provide air support and bomb eastern parts of the city after skirmishes abated last week.
The Jabhet Fateh al-Sham forces were the group that carried on with three car bombs on a suicide mission aimed at regime forces in the southwest portion of Aleppo. SOHR reported that the bombings caused casualties but reports on the numbers killed and wounded remained unclear.
Jahbet Fateh al-Sham, previously called the al-Nustra front, has confirmed the attack on their communications channel as well as on Twitter where they announced the start of their offensive against government forces.
The recent offensives followed after the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Syrian government and Russian allies that resulted into a lull in the fighting in Aleppo. After the ceasefire, the battle resumed as soon as warplanes resumed its bombings into the city.
