Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Madden video game franchise, Madden NFL 25 will include a team that will feature the best NFL players at every position in the franchise's history. Since Monday, the developers of Madden have been revealing the stars of the All-25 team and plan to continue through August 10th.
The first selection to be announced for the team was the coach, and there's only one coach that would be chosen for this position: John Madden.
Long before John Madden started his own football game franchise in 1988, he was a Super-Bowl-winning coach for the Oakland Raiders. He finished his coaching career with a record of 103-32-7, the second-highest winning percentage of any coach in NFL history, according to the International Digital Times. Afterward, John Madden started his career as a color commentator with Pat Summerall, becoming one of the best color commentators and voices of the NFL for over two decades.
On Tuesday, EA Sports announced the running back and fullback positions.
For running back, Kahlil Thomas of iDigitalTimes.com reported that it will be Marshall Faulk of the St. Louis Rams, who was an unstoppable force in Madden NFL '03 with a 99 overall rating and a spot on the cover of the game. During his first year with the Rams, Faulk broke Barry Sanders's record of 2,358 yards in scrimmage by accumulating 2,429 yards. In his record-breaking year, Faulk had 1,048 receiving yards and finished his career with 6,875 receiving yards.
With such credentials, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first attempt in 2011.
For fullback, the position was given to Mike Alstott of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had an overall rating of 99 for Madden NFL 2000 mainly for short yardage runs and passes in the flat. What he him very special is that he was a battering ram (nicknamed the "Human Truck Stick") as he ran over linebackers and cornerbacks that were brave enough to come within two yards of him, paving the way for backs like Warrick Dunn. In spite to the abrupt end of his 11-year career due to a neck injury, Alstott ranked #10 on the NFL Network's "Top Ten Power Backs."
Here's the list of positions to be announced in the coming days:
July 31- Defensive End
August 1- Safety
August 2- Cornerback
August 3- Special Team
August 4- Quarterback
August 6- Wide Receiver, Tight End
August 7- Offensive Tackle, Center
August 8- Offensive Guard
August 9- Linebacker
August 10- Defensive Tackle
