One Direction member Louis Tomlinson is bound for a new direction as he signs a football deal with Doncaster Rovers for the sake of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospital.
Tomlinson along with other band members Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Pain, and Niall Horan, is managed by Simon Cowell. The band has had 61 chart toppers in 37 countries and millions of fans allover the world.
The 21-year-old singer says, "I feel very honored to have been asked to sign for Rovers and being able to help both the club and the amazing charity Bluebell Wood is what it's all about."
While the Doncaster-born Tomlinson is used to performing live in front of thousands of Directioners, he will be playing football in the small Keepmoat Stadium. Reports say that Tomlinson used to watch games at the stadium and even worked as a ball boy there for a time. While Tomlinson is excited about playing football, he will miss the first game of the Rovers against Blackpool scheduled Saturday because of his band's performance in Las Vegas, NV.
Tomlinson's schedule did not deter the Rovers from welcoming Tomlinson into their fold though. A statement from the club's website says, "Louis has always been passionate about football and wanted to realize a dream of signing to his home town club where he once worked on match days."
After a series of discussions between the singer and his manager, the club decided that they will issue Tomlinson a squad number for this season.
The English-Irish pop group finished third in The X Factor in 2010 and signed with Syco Records afterwards. Social media had a hand in propelling the pop boy band to international success and One Directions' albums in 2011 and 2012 broke a number of records and generated hit singles. "What Makes You Beautiful" is one of their most popular songs.
