With the official trailer released, rumours are that lead actor Jamie Dornan may not be staying to play the eccentric Mr. Grey, and is instead being replaced by Iam Somerhalder.
"Fifty Shades" followers online have rumoured that for the rest of the upcoming movies of the "Fifty Shades" series, the actor that will play Christian Grey is recast to Ian Somerhalder. The source of where the speculations started though are yet unknown.
Actor Jamie Dornan was more than happy to shed light on the rumour saying that he is unaware of the change that is to happen. In his appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" just a few days ago, Dornan told host Jimmy Kimmel that replacing him for actor Ian Somerhalder would be an "expensive mistake".
Dornan clarified that it would be very difficult to replace him due to the fact that both Dornan and lead actress Dakota Johnson already shot both the sequel "Fifty Shades Darker," and the final entry in the trilogy, "Fifty Shades Freed."
Tensions brewed online over Dornan fans and Somerhalder fans, but Dornan was quick to dispel them, saying nonetheless that though it would be difficult to replace him from the perspective of the studio's budget, Somerhalder would still be great in the film had the situation been true that he was cast.
Ian Somerhalder is the lead star in the long-running TV series "Vampire Diaries," and have expressed interest in taking the role of Christian Grey during the casting period for the first "Fifty Shades" movie. But at the same time, Somerhalder recognized the difficulty of doing so while starring in his TV series which shoots over 10 months a year.
Both the "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" finished filming in July this year and is set for release on February 2017 and 2018 respectively.
