What Sets 'Doctor Strange' Apart From Other Marvel Superheroes

Odd as it may seem, "Doctor Strange", the blockbuster movie with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the title role is being described as something different from other Marvel characters. Perhaps, it might also be the reason why the movie is such a hit.

Most of the superheroes get their powers from realistic sci-fi sort, accidental radioactive fallouts, technological inventions or experiments gone wrong. In the case of "Doctor Strange", his powers are derived from magic with all its trimmings of spells, relics and the like.

"Doctor Strange" may be placed in the category of Norse God Thor whose origin is from another world. Some people place their minds in the believable when viewing entertainment, and "Doctor Strange", it seems to them, is more in the realm of Harry Potter rather the Marvel universe.

Anyway, the lead actor, Benedict Cumberbatch can hold his own when portraying strange characters like "Doctor Strange". He has successfully portrayed a neurosurgeon, who after being injured in a car accident, successfully fulfilled his destiny by seeking help from mystics in Tibet.

The Ancient One, the mystic who helped "Doctor Strange" recover his damaged fingers and acquiring other mythical powers in the process is played by the talented Tilda Swinton who had to go bald in the movie. "Doctor Strange" soon discovers that magical powers are really not that hard to acquire especially when taught by a great mystic teacher like the Ancient One.

Despite talking with the obviously American accent of Benedict Cumberbatch, "Doctor Strange" in his costume and the fantastic action he thrives in makes the film more appetizing to the audience. When "Doctor Strange" discovers the bad guys in a plot to destroy the world, his desire to help hesitatingly transforms him into a powerful crafty wizard out to save the world.

As soon as the fans get used to his weird and wonderful ways, "Doctor. Strange" will certainly move his way into the roll of Marvel superheroes.
