Initially, J.K. Rowling gifted "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" bejeweled copy to Barry Cunningham, he was one of the closest supporters of Harry Potter in the very beginning. It was supposed to be for publication of a Harry Potter story spin-off. Later on, she made six other manuscripts for friends, one was already auctioned in 2007.
BBC described the inscription of Harry Potter's Rowling for Cunningham as, "To Barry, the man whos thought an overlong novel about a boy wizard in glasses might just sell... THANK YOU". Furthermore, Barry Cunningham is an editor and publishing house owner where the Harry Potter author first submitted her works. And now, the copy will be auctioned for profit, and Cunningham promised to give some of it for donation. J.K. Rowling gave her blessing so that other fans can enjoy the rare-copy
Bounded in brown Morocco Leather and semi-precious stones with a sterling silver skull, the rarity of the book doesn't end there. Remarkably, the story itself is handwritten, while the drawings were illustrated by Rowling herself.
On Standard, Dr. Philip W. Errington, Director of Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department said: "The personal resonance of this book makes this both an exceptional and highly desirable object to come to auction." He also added, "It is particularly special as it is only one of six made for those closest to the author throughout the journey of creating the Harry Potter series, gifted to the man who recognized the brilliance of J.K Rowling's writing and her potential impact on children's literature."
Surely, whom ever will get the book will be an avid Harry Potter fan as well, Barry Cunningham's belief to his close friend will be a legacy as the story of Harry Potter continues. The auction will be at Sotheby London on Dec. 13., a book viewing of the Bejeweled Copy of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" will also be at Sotheby New York on No. 9-11.
