TMZ reported Wednesday that Sandlot actor Tom Guiry who played Scotty Smalls in the classic was detained by police after headbutting an officer. The actor was trying to catch his flight at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, TX when one of the employees of United Airlines told Guiry that he was too intoxicated to fly.
Houston Police says the employee called one of the airport cops to the scene where the latter approached the Sandlot actor. Guiry was given two choices -either he will get a public intoxication arrest or as TMZ put it, "the drunk tank."
Guiry became belligerent, sources say and started verbally abusing the airport cop. Guiry allegedly went as far as threatening the officer and tried to kick him in the face but only got his revenge through a headbutt.
TMZ reports that the actor posted bail and has been released since. When members of the media tried to call his representatives, they said they do not have any comment about the incident.
The 31-year-old Guiry is an American actor who played the role of Scotty Smalls in the 1993 film The Sandlot. He later starred as Matthew Turner in Lassie a year later.
This year is the reunion for Sandlot's 20th anniversary in Utah. Guiry however was not able to make it to the reunion. For a lot of fans of the classic film, it was somehow a bummer to hear of the baseball movie's Scotty Smalls headbutting a police officer.
While some child stars did not turn out the way fans expected them to -Guiry being one good example, there are several child stars who made it big. This includes the likes of Natalie Portman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Gosling, Emma Watson, Justin Timberlake, and Neil Patrick Harris.
So far, Guiry hasn't contacted the media about the incident at the airport.
