48-year-old Malike Amir Mohammad Khan Afridi decided one day to grow a rather bizarre-looking mustache but his form of self-expression has been frowned upon by Islamic extremists in Pakistan.
Afridi was reportedly imprisoned in a cave after refusing to get rid of his majestic facial hair but prior to that, sources say he was even offered to pay for protection for his mustache. He later moved to Peshawar with his family to run away from the weird-handlebar-mustache-hating men from the original place he lived in but his new neighbors and other folks in Peshawar frown upon his mustache. He started receiving death threats since.
In the Western world, expressing oneself by wearing a mustache or any kind of haircut is not a crime and neither frowned upon but in places where extremists reign, things as mundane as a weird-looking mustache can get one in a lot of trouble.
In places like Pakistan, a lot of things are frowned upon or taboo but what makes this story rather interesting is that it's just a mustache.
In a survey done by Northumbria University where over 70 women were shown photos of men's faces -some altered to display hairlessness to hairiness, the women decided that the most attractive type of facial hair in men is a light stubble.
Does this mean you should be putting the razor down? Psychologists who conducted this survey believe that a man with a bit of hair ala Colin Farrel shows a strong and mature look.
It is interesting to note that the women in the study deemed that a full face of hair on a man as very masculine and aggressive but rarely considered sexy or attractive.
The cut called the shadow gives men a sharper appearance. Salon Pour Hommes' Martial Vivot says, "It intensifies the angles of the face."
