The 75-year-old legendary anime director of the infamous Studio Ghibli will come out of retirement to do a full-length feature for the CGI short titled "Boro the Caterpillar." Hayao Miyazaki who announced his retirement last 2013 had said that it will be his final work.
News outlet Animation World Network mentioned that director Miyazaki is working on "Kemushi no Boro" or "Boro the Caterpillar" in English, which is intended to be shown at the Studio Ghibli Museum. However, it seems like the anime director was not too happy and content with the results. He wanted to convert the short film into a full-length feature and voiced his ideas to Studio Ghibli head, Toshio Suzuki.
Miyazaki has described "Boro the Caterpillar" as "a story of a tiny, hairy caterpillar, so tiny that it may be easily squished between your fingers." The story has been in the works or over 20 years and will premiere the short film in 2017.
The legendary director has produced a countless number of high acclaimed anime features such as, "Spirited Away," "My Neighbor Totoro," and "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind." The Guardian reported that Hayao Miyazaki wanted "The Wind Rises" to be his last film. However, this might not be the case.
In an NHK TV special, Hayao Miyazaki confirmed that he will make one more full-length anime film. It will be released in 2019, right before the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Furthermore, Suzuki added that his long time collaborator has had some difficulty using CG animation since he is used to create films using hand-drawn materials.
It usually takes Miyazaki five years to complete one feature length anime film but CG animation techniques can speed up the process. Suzuki even added, "ready to die" while working on the film.
Fans are surely in a frenzy after this confirmation by Hayao Miyazaki. Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire has recently reported another comeback of "Hunter x Hunter's" manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi.
