A shopping center located right across a mosque in Houston put up a sign that says, "NO MUSLIM Parking in Westview Shopping Center.
Located across the El Farouq Mosque, the shopping center's management has posted a number of these signs in their parking lot.
"I feel sorry for the person who wrote it," Ahmed Hassan, one of the people who attend services at the mosque told reporters. "Obviously he has a lot of hate," Hassan added.
No one claimed responsibility for the signs, sources say but the owner Steve Kwon he plans to get rid of the offensive signs.
It is true however that those who attend the services of El Farouq Mosque park their vehicles in the shopping center's carpark but critics are saying that Westview should have handled the situation in a less callous manner.
There has been a lot of hatred against Muslims the world over because of their extremist brothers who have terrorized certain parts of the world.
An article published by the BBC in July 2013 asked, "Are anti-Muslim hate crimes rising?" Anti-Muslim hate crimes in Britain rose after the killing of Fusilier Lee Rigby, a British soldier. However, the National Community Tension Team noted that a spike in anti-Muslim incidents in the country was seen.
In America, where the "NO MUSLIM PARKING" signs still sit -at least in Houston, Texas, a number of anti-Muslim crimes have been committed. In February this year, taxi driver Mohammed Ezzahir was called a [expletive] terrorist and assaulted by three men.
Ezzahir's attorney Gadeir Abbas told reporters that the men who attacked his client were intoxicated at the time. A hate crime is defined as "a criminal offense committed against a person, property, or society that is motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin" according to the FBI.
