The last episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 13 before the midseason break stopped as Owen, played by Kevin McKidd, arrived home after his furious discussion with Amelia, who revealed her dislike for having children. It would seem Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen's relationship would have been over but Owen chose to "man up" and avoid doing "something stupid" like cheating -- something he did to his former lover Cristina.
But before the screen blacked and the credits rolled over, we saw this note: "Don't make this all your fault. I know you. That's what you do. But please, please don't do that." Obviously, this note was something Amelia wrote. Obviously, she had also left the premises before Owen even arrived.
According to Kevin McKidd, Amelia had left Owen "for now." He said that it is truly "horrible and heartbreaking" for both Amelia and Owen to go through this situation.
McKidd also said he feels the pangs of pain for Owen because he worked so hard to win back Amelia, who had disappeared. Another reason that it is painful is the note's message: Amelia did not want to have kids at all.
McKidd said he also feels Amelia's pain because she feels a huge division between Owen and herself that she needed time alone probably to think or to feel what was right for her. But McKidd was certain both characters are left wondering where their marriage was going.
McKidd said the script for Grey's Anatomy Episode 9 was truly for Caterina Scorsone's leave as she needed a break to deliver her second child. Popsugar.com reports that Scorsone had given birth exactly on election day and definitely needs the time off the screen.
Despite the practical efficiency of the script for Amelia's disappearance and Scorsone's break, McKidd highlights that this "pivotal moment" for Owen and Amelia makes Episode 10 truly worth watching. He said how can both prolong their marriage with such a difference in opinion on top of added wounds from battling for someone's love and things becoming too difficult was a puzzle for him.
Tune in when Grey's Anatomy returns on January 19, 2017 on ABC!
