The announcement of CBS "Star Trek Discovery" to be broadcast as a TV show in July 2016 stirred excitement for the Star Trek fans everywhere.Unfortunately, the reviews say the show won't succeed on TV.
CBS is taking a risk with this one, a sci-fi like Star Trek is not something you watch in a traditional TV show. And in order retain fans of Star Trek, the twists for the new show better be good.According to Recode Media ,Jim Lanzone, the CBS Interactive CEO said,"Sci-fi is not something that has traditionally done really well on broadcast. It's not impossible, for the future, if somebody figures it out."
"And things like 'Lost' and 'Heroes' have had parts of sci-fi, but historically a show like 'Star Trek' wouldn't necessarily be a broadcast show, at this point."He added.
Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman created "Star Trek: Discovery". However, in October 2016, Fuller said he would not be able to continue his role a showrunner because of other commitments. Fuller created the mythology and story arc of the show and he will remain, as an executive producer.Aside from that, the premiere that was originally set for January 2017 was move to May 2017 instead.
"Star Trek Discovery" is set 10 years before Kirk's original Enterprise mission and this time, the lead won't be a male but a female lieutenant commander. In an interview with Fuller in Entertainment Weekly, he confirmed that there will be gay character in the show.Star Trek fans can also expect new worlds, new heroes, and former characters from the original movie. For more updates, casts and spoilers of new TV show, check out Jobs & Hire.
