British parachutist Mark Sutton who parachuted in the 2012 London Olympics dressed the great British fictional spy James Bond has died, UK media says.
The 42-year-old Sutton passed away after he hit a cliff, a statement from Swiss police said. Mark Sutton and and another parachutist jumped at 3, 300 meters in the Alps near the French border. The statement adds, "They then flew remaining close to the mountain, with the intention of landing near Le Peuty, near Trient, in Switzerland. During this flight, one of the men suffered a fatal fall. According to a preliminary investigation, it appears that he fell after hitting a cliff."
Sutton was reportedly in Chamonix in Switzerland with other professionals in the field. The group was gathered by an extreme sports company that films daredevil feats and broadcasts it online.
When records confirmed that it was indeed Mark Sutton who died from the incident, the Foreign Office of the United Kingdom released a statement about his death. A spokesman of the UK Foreign Office told reporters that they are, "ready to provide consular assistance."
Sutton is most famous from his helicopter jump above the London Olympic stadium. Sutton jumped alongside another stuntman who was dressed as the Queen. The stunt was seen by millions.
His fellow stuntman during the event took Twitter upon hearing news about Sutton's death and wrote: "All you jumpers/flyers out there, stay safe, make wise choices and know your limits and your locations. Live to tell your stories. One love."
The extreme sport of jumping from high altitudes that Sutton was into involves using a wingsuit -one that looks like a cape of a superhero. The suit allows jumpers to slow down their fall before they deploy their parachutes.
The British Parachute Association's national coach John Hitchen told media that the organization "was saddened to hear about the death of Sutton" who was a member of the association.
