Darren Young, whose real name is Frederick Rosser, is now the first ever professional wrestler who declared he is gay after being asked by a paparazzo if a gay athlete could survive in the WWE or MMA World.
29-year old Young shocks the TMZ cameraman in a Los Angeles airport as the WWE superstar answers his question: "Absolutely, look at me. I'm a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy." Darren shares that he hopes his revelation will make a difference.
The wrestler who's due for Summer Slam this Sunday further states, "Some people might not like it but I'm here to please myself. I'm happy with myself." Darren Young has been a mainstay in the world renowned wrestling show since 2010 and when asked about how his revelation will now affect his personal and professional life, he answers: "All sports are physical. We're all adults," said Young. "To be honest with you, when I come to work, I come to work. This is business. I'm a WWE Superstar. I'm there to entertain the WWE Universe and that's what my job is to do and I do it well.
Reactions from his fellow pro wrestlers and within the industry have all been positive. John Cena, whose brother is openly gay as well congratulated Young for coming out and considers the young wrestler's move 'bold'. WWE President's daughter Stephanie McMahon tweets in support of the 29-year old, "Congratulations to @DarrenYoungWWE for being the first openly gay WWE Superstar!". Chavo Guerrero, Bret Hart and Triple H all tweeted and shared the same sentiments.
Darren Young is one among professional athletes who recently came out as the first in their respective fields, with Robbie Rogers who's currently playing for LA Galaxy and pro football player Robbie Rogers.
