American actress Raquel Welch will star together with Enrico Colantoni in Litetime's biopic "House of Versace". Welch will play Gianna Versace's aunt alongside Gina Gershon who will play the fashion designer's sister Donatella.
The biopic based on Wall Street Journal's Deborah Ball's book "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival" tracks the struggles of Donatella Versace to take over Gianni's fashion empire after the latter is slain.
Lifetime said of the project in a press release that, at first, Donatella is ridiculed and later "falls victim to drug addiction and nearly bankrupts the company. With the help of her family, including daughter Allegra, Aunt Lucia, and brother Santo, she enters rehab to confront her demons and soon comes back stronger than ever to re-ignite the beloved Versace brand with her own vision and builds one of the most powerful and influential fashion houses ever known."
Following its premiere on October 5 at 8 p.m. is a documentary about Gianni Versace's rise to fame in the fashion industry.
Raquel Welch is an American sex symbol who got attention for her character in 1966's Fantastic Voyage. After starring in the flick, Welch signed with 20th Century Fox. On that same year, Raquel Welch was loaned to One Million Years B.C. where she only had a few lines. However, the bikini she wore made the Chicago-born Welch into an icon and a sex symbol. This catapulted the now 72-year-old actress to stardom. Welch is now a spokesperson for Foster Grant.
Raquel Welch was not known as Raquel when she was younger. She was named Jo Raquel Tejada to Josephine Sarah Hall and an aeronautical engineer father Armando Carlos Tejada Urquizo from Bolivia. Welch always wanted to perform and studied ballet at the age of seven until she was seventeen. She gave up ballet later on because her figure got in the way.
