Fans of Dave Chappelle are about to see him soon, not on stage, but on Prince's album cover.
The award winning singer tweeted yesterday a picture of his new album, "Breakfast can Wait" showing Dave Chapelle carrying a plate full of pancakes. The actor and stand up comedian Chapelle took a break from the show business in 2009 and has not made any public appearance since. Prince's new album is scheduled to hit the stores before the year ends.
Prince revealed this information through his newly-created twitter account, 3rd Eye Girl. The context for the said picture is Chappelle's stand up skit in 2004 where he told a story of him, Prince, and Charles Murphy playing a basketball game and then eating breakfast afterwards. In this skit, Dave Chappele did an impersonation of Prince, which is positively received by the audience.
In an interview about the said skit, Prince told the media how muc he he liked Chappelle's impersonation of him. In his words, he narrated the events of that day. 'Dave came over and came to one of my shows afterwards. We just sat chilling, we'd been there two or three hours whatever, then out of nowhere I said "Dave you want some pancakes?" This, of course, is the reference for the plate of pancakes that Dave is carrying in the album cover.
Prince's twitter account, 3rd Eye Girl became active only days before he posted the photo of the album cover. The account has over 150,000 followers, an increase which can be attributed to the viral picture of cover album. After Prince has tweeted the photo, both his and Dave's fans started retweeting it over and over again.
3rd Eye Girl is Prince's current band. Other members of the band are Donna Grantis, Ida Neilsen, and Hannah Ford.
The photo was followed by a snippet of Prince's newest song. Listen to the snippet of Breakfast Can Wait:
