The American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC) is planning to conduct an event called "Million Muslim March". Although the goals of the events seem fair and harmless, this is sparking fury and debate due to its untimely schedule.
The said event is scheduled to occur on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Many expressed their disagreement over this and called the timing of the event "insensitive". The event is organized to protest against discrimination against the followers of the Muslim faith by the US government and the citizens. The group is supposed to march to the National Mall and stage their protest there.
On the other hand, many believe that this Million Muslims March is a bit ambitious for AMPAC. According to the events page created by AMPAC, there are only 57 people who will march with them on September 11. AMPAC's base is in Kansas City, Missouri.
AMPAC founder Rabbi Alam, M.D. told Fox News: "'On 9.11.01 our country was forever changed by the horrific events in New York. The entire country was victimized by the acts done on that day".
'Muslim and Non Muslim alike were traumatized but we as Muslims continue 12 years later to be victimized by being made the villains. To this day every media outlet and anti-Islamic organization has committed slanderous and libel statements against us as Muslims and our religion of Islam." he added.
Days after announcing the Million Muslims March, AMPAC changed the name of the event to "Million American March Against Fear."
As one may recall, the terrorist's attacks on 9/11 claimed 3000 lives, 2600 of which are American. The terrorist group Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack and cited several justifications for it, all of which were based on the teachings of Islam.
Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, head of the Islamic Forum for Democracy told Fox: 'They're basically a bunch of "truthers" who think that America's to blame for everything,'
A lot of debate is focusing on this issue. Many are anxious to see the turn of this event on September 11.
