For decades now, several franchises of Pokémon invaded the universe, causing obsession to video game and anime fans of all ages. Summer of this year, the franchise has launched "Pokémon Go" and before 2016 ends, the reality game was just recently recognized by Google Play as the top trending game of the year.
Play Store is one of the biggest mobile search engine where over 65 billion of Android users are allowed to download games, apps, movies, music, etc. So being acknowledged as the Best Game of the year is such a big deal for the "Pokémon Go" developers and franchisers.
Before 2016 kisses its final goodbye, Google has released on Thursday its official lists of Play Store's top games and apps for the year based on over 190 countries in the entire planet. Google's lists provide us a hint on what game or app should you expect from an Android user's smartphone or tablet.
As the game was sensationalized from the day it was first released to the public, "Pokémon Go" was already dubbed as the only mobile reality game to reach a revenue worth $500 million in just a matter of six months, as reported by Venture Beat. As of now, "Pokémon Go" has 500 million players all over the world who hunt Pokémon in a real life setting.
"Duo", an application similar to FaceTime or Skype that allows its users to make a video call with anyone on their contacts who has also installed the app, was hailed as the most downloaded app of the year. Meanwhile, Google awarded Prisma as the "Best App 2016". It is an app that converts photos into a painting that appears to be very realistic though the use of artificial intelligence.
On the other hand, according to the report of CNET, "Stressed Out" (Twenty One Pilots) and "Sorry (Justin Bieber) are the top two most downloaded songs in the Google Play Store. "Deadpool" also made an astounding performance as it was acknowledged as the Top Movie and Top New Book of 2016.
