PRISON BREAK STAR REVEALS HE IS GAY

“As a gay man, I must decline” This was the brave and proud admission of Wentworth Miller in his letter addressed to Petersburg International Film Festival director Maria Averbakh, informing her that he is declining the invitation to attend the film festival. The forty-one year old star who became famous for his portrayal of Michael Scofield in “Prison Break”, decided to come out and make the world know that he is a member of the third sex. In the same letter addressed to Averbakh, Miller expressed how deeply troubled he is by the current attitude of the Russian Government toward gay men and women and how they are treated. “The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by the country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly,” he added. There have been rumors in the past about Miller’s sexuality but he never addressed the matter until now. His declaration came at a time when media’s attention is focused on the anti-gay policies of Russia which included a ban on Gay Pride parades in Moscow for one hundred years and a ban on couples to adopt children who came from countries where same sex marriage is allowed. In June of this year, a new law banning expressions of support for gay rights was signed in Russia. Miller is not the only star who has shown dismay over this law which deprives members of the LGBT community. Celebrities like Neil Patrick Harris, Rose Mc Gowan, Tom Ballard, Justin Mikita and Greg Berlanti showed their support for Miller by posting tweets of encouragement and admiration for his courageous admission. Miller was invited by Averbakh to attend the Petersburg International Film Festival and was offered to be honored at the Festival. Miller is not only declining the offer, he is also joining other celebrities in preventing the Olympics to be held in Russia.
