SPERRENG MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER ARRESTED FOR HAVING SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SIXTEEN YEARS AGO

Sperreng Middle School teacher James Bliss Wilder III was arrested on Tuesday morning and is being held in St. Louis County Jail for six counts of second-degree statutory sodomy.

The forty-seven year old teacher was charged on Wednesday for six counts of statutory sodomy in the second degree. His bail is set at $50,000 cash only bond.

Randy Vaughn, spokesman for St. Louis County Police Department, said that investigation began when a former Lindbergh High School student reported the alleged relationship. According to the woman she was a member of the track team and Wilder III was their team's coach. The woman claims that she and Wilder III had a one-year relationship that started on August 1996 and went on until she turned eighteen on September 21 of the following year.

Another woman also claims that she had a relationship with wilder that went on for fifteen years even when she was already married. She said that she needed to come forward because she feels that she is not the only victim of Wilder and that she felt compelled to protect girls who could be potential victims.

In 2008, the high school teacher was faced with the same allegations but during that time the police found that there was no "credible evidence" that indicated Wilder's wrongdoing.

We are troubled and disturbed when we receive allegations such as this. We want our parents to know we'll do whatever we can to cooperate with police," said Beth Johnston, Lindbergh School District's director for community relations.

Wilder might have been in shock when he was arrested for an act he committed sixteen years ago. The Statute of Limitatins of Missouri allows the prosecution of the crime within thirty years from the time the crime was committed. Wilder faces life in jail for seven years.
