With "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" less than two weeks away from its premiere, there are rumors circulating that the movie is somehow connected to the "Star Wars: Episode VIII" that will come in December of 2018. The connection centers on the main character of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The recent rumors were started when Entertainment Weekly came out with a timeline map of all the Star Wars property last month. The timeline map tried to explain the connection of all the movies and series that already came out and the ones that are scheduled to come out, which is "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story," Episode VIII, and "Star Wars: Episode IX."
Noticeable on the timeline map is the red line that connects "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" to Episode VIII. It is known that the timeline of "Rogue One" takes place prior to "Star Wars: A New Hope," while Episode VIII will be taking place after "The Force Awakens," a timeline of more than 30 years apart.
So how are the two movies connected to each other when they have more than three decades between them? One Reddit user actually came out with a theory of the connection between Episode VIII and "Rouge One" early this year and it involves the main character, Rey.
According to the Reddit user, the helmet Rey used in "The Force Awakens" belongs to a female X-Wing pilot Dosmit Raeh. The user also mentioned that Luke Skywalker was part of the Rogue Squadron before so it's not farfetched to think that he and Dosmit could have formed some sort of romantic relationship, which possibly resulted in Rey being born.
There's also the possibility that Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso could be Rey's mother, especially if Jones' accent in the trailers is British (which it is). This could also mean that Dosmit Raeh and Jyn Erso are one and the same.
If this is true, it could explain Rey's British accent, why she is a good pilot, and as well as why she is strong in the ways of the Force. This is only theory and speculation at this point. Hopefully, when "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" premieres, everyone will have a clearer answer.
