Prison Break star Wenworth Miller recently admitted that he's gay, causing mixed reactions his by his fans and co-workers.
Miller declined the invitation to go the St. Petersburg International Film Festival in Russia. The reason that he cited shocked millions of people all over the world; he is gay.
The Prison Break star went on to explain his revelation in a public statement: "Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes,"
The 41-year old star's statement is referring to the new anti-gay laws which was enacted by the Russian government. According to the press release, these new laws are part of the campaign to promote Russia's traditional values as well as prevent the adoption of Russian children to families who are led by same-sex partners.
In the same letter, Miller said, "Perhaps, when and if circumstances improve, I'll be free to make a different choice."
Wentworth Miller's revelation is positively received by many of his colleagues in Hollywood. Some celebrities even tweeted their accolades for the actor's courage to tell the truth.
Neil Patrick Harris, who came out as gay years ago, said, "Well done, Wentworth Miller. Bravo" in his Twitter account. Other celebrities who praised the Prison Break actor are Greg Berlanti, Tom Ballard, and Justin Mikita.
On the other hand, GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz also applauded Miller's strength to come out and tell the truth. He said that the actor's decision is a "bold show of support sends a powerful message to LGBT Russians,"
"As people from across the globe continue to speak out against this horrific law, more celebrities and corporations should follow his courageous lead in openly condemning Russia's anti-LGBT law," Cruz added.'
