When is a leader can be called effective leader and when is a leader can be called an ineffective leader? In life's aspect there is no any single man who has not encountered or even ordered around by a leader. Or if the purpose and goal of the project has failed, does it mean that the leader is very incapable? Does it have to do with the character or attitude of a person or is it affected by the ways of a leader to rule the members?
According to Harvard Business Review, there are two leadership styles known as dominance and prestige. Given two different situations that calls for a leadership strategy take a look which of the two leadership styles best suits the situation. When a company has a clear strategy for a new product launch this calls for a dominant leader that needs to provide firm directives to get the marketing, distribution, and sales people working together and moving in one direction. When facing tight deadlines, dominance is needed to generate fast and well directed and coordinated responses. The second situation will be when a marketing team is charged with creating an innovative advertising campaign this is the event that a prestigious leader can release the pressure on team members and encourage them to think outside the box.
Dominant leaders achieve their goals by emphasizing their role as the boss, bragging people with bonuses and promotions, and intimidating people with the threat of punishment. Prestige, in contrast, means influencing others by displaying signs of wisdom and expertise and being a role model.
