Jodi Arias' trial sentencing has been put off until mid-September, and Jodi Arias' attorneys want a change in venue as stated in a motion they filed on Tuesday.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens said that the prosecutors of Jodi Arias' trial needed sufficient time to monitor jurors' Twitter updates and to contain live coverage from Maricopa media in response to the requests made by Arias' lawyers earlier. The sentencing is projected to take its course on Sept. 16, Stephens added.
Jodi Arias' attorneys' filed requests were based on their own research findings that the first trial on Jodi Arias' case, that received 70 percent media coverage, took place in Maricopa County.
A Yahoo! News report stated that jurors' interaction on Twitter and other social networking sites will be monitored during the entire duration of the trial period. Nurmi cited that any form of exchange thru social media can possibly influence the decision of the jurors.
Arias attorney Kirk Nurmi said that the case received "widespread, unfair and prejudicial coverage" from Maricopa County local media outlets, adding, "Both the nature and extent of the publicity surrounding Ms. Arias' case render it impossible that the accused will receive a fair trial in this capital case if it is tried in Maricopa County."
Jodi Arias was convicted of first-degree murder on May 8 for her 2008 killing of boyfriend Travis Alexander. The 33-year-old didn't receive a death penalty after the first trial marathon since the jury had failed to reach the decision of giving her one.
According to a Fox News report, the prosecutors of the Jodi Arias case trail maintained that if the new set of jury would still fail to decide whether or not Jodi deserves to receive a death penalty, she is to be sentenced to life-imprisonment. The report also stated that the overseeing judge could not decide if Arias' term would be eligible for parole after 25 years.
Earlier reports exposed Jodi Arias' online book club endeavor albeit staying behind bars.
Though the 33-year-old suspect simply shares her reviews on her favorite online reads, an NBC News report shared that Jodi Arias was able to upload certain messages via chat to a remote friend, who then posts these messages under the @JodiAnnArias social media account.
