"Criminal Minds" Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is now officially not one man short. After the rather abrupt exit of Thomas Gibson as Hotch, CBS has cast Damon Gupton to fill in the team as a new series regular.
Though Gupton's character is not a direct replacement of Gibson's Hotch, Damon is expected to make the BAU feel complete again. The new team leader for the department is expected to be revealed soon and is assumed to come from within.
As TVLine previously reported, Damon Gupton will play as Special Agent Stephen Walker who is characterized as a seasoned profiler from the FBI's BAU-a counterintelligence division. Walker is purportedly an experienced profiler who has specific spy skill set that will be essential to the team.

"Our BAU family is growing," stated by Erica Messer, "Criminal Minds" executive producer. "We're excited to have Damon join the show and work alongside our amazing cast and crew."
He was introduced to viewers in Wednesday's episode, titled "Scarecrow," on Dec. 7 on CBS. However in an account by IBTimes, there were mixed reactions to the latest addition with fans crying out for the return of Thomas Gibson.
In fact, the show has been on an all-time low rating since Gibson's departure. Reports previously mentioned that the show might have been canceled or eventually bring back Gibson's Hotch to deflect the downtrend rankings.
Actually, information has surfaced about Gibson's return to be as early as in the next episodes of "Criminal Minds" Season 12. After all, the writers had written his character off in such a way that his return can be easily guided.
For the meantime, what can you say about the development of "Criminal Minds" Season 12? Is it in your satisfaction or are you expecting more now that Damon Gupton is on the show?
