A Catonsville shooting on Wednesday left a veteran Baltimore County police officer dead, UPI said the veteran police officer involved in the Catonsville shooting died after he was ambushed while still serving a warrant.
Veteran Baltimore County Police Officer Jason Schneider died in the Catonsville, Md. shooting, when the suspect allegedly opened fire while the veteran police office was turning a corner inside a Winter Lane in Catonsville house. Reports stated that Schneider was shot several times.
Catonsville Police Office was rushed to the hospital, the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but apparently died due to the serious injuries he got from the Catonsville shooting.
"This is particularly hard.... He was a great guy. Can you imagine what he did in 10 years of tactical," said Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson on the death of the veteran involved in the Catonsville, Md. shooting.
"A terrible loss for Baltimore County," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
Authorities said that veteran police officer Schneider was doing some room-to-room inspection inside the Catonsville home in search of the suspect when he was shot several times, adding that the 36-year-old veteran had managed to strike against the suspect as well.
The Catonsville shooting suspect was rushed to the same hospital, and was reportedly in a critical condition.
Veteran police officer Schneider had been in the police force for over 13 years, and was a unit leader for the Baltimore police department and at the same time serving as a special tactical unit officer for 10 years now.
Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley commanded that the state flag be flown at half-mast in honor of Catonsville shooting victim police officer Jason Schneider.
Inquisitor added that although violent crimes have diminished within the decade, a number of shootings have happened within the recent weeks, noting that a man was shot in a street shooting, and that a 16-year-old boy was shot near a shopping mall two days after.
