Justin Timberlake said that he doesn't get why Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance is becoming that big of a controversy, in his radio guesting at Fresh 102.7 Tuesday. Justin Timberlake is the latest addition to the defenders of Miley Cyrus for her 'We Can't Stop' song number and 'Blurred Lines' duet, CBS NEWS reported Wednesday.
Miley Cyrus received much criticism after provocatively performing on stage, clothed with a flesh-colored two-piece bikini, sticking her tongue out a couple of times, twerking, and repeatedly groping Robin Thicke during their 'Blurred Lines' duet. The Parents Television Council even publicly condemned both Miley Cyrus and MTV for "marketing sexual messages to young children," CBS News reported.
"Listen, man, you know, it's the VMAs. What did you guys expect?" Justin Timberlake said on Miley Cyrus performance. "I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she's young. She's letting everybody know that she's growing up," Timberlake added.
Miley Cyrus' critics flocked different social media sites, pointing out that the 20-year-old's performance was disgraceful, and should not have been broadcasted because of inappropriate content.
"I just think it's the VMAs. It's not like she did it at the Grammys," Justin Timberlake said when asked about his opinion on the issue.
Timberlake also pointed out that Miley Cyrus' risqué performance isn't the only one of its kind throughout the history of the VMAs, noting that Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Britney Spears kiss in 2003 was also a little over-the-top that it sparked controversy for days and months after that event.
"This is not an uncommon thing," Justine Timberlake said on Miley Cyrus' semi-naked body display. "I actually thought all the bears were really cool."
Meanwhile, the "Suit & Tie" singer was praised for his endearing "N'SYNC reunion" performance as well as for his 15-minute solo act that came after.
Many other celebrities voiced out their opinion on Miley's insanely wild 'We Can't Stop' rendition at the VMAs.
Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley's father, told Entertainment Tonight. "She's still my little girl, and I'm still her dad, regardless of how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally, and that will never change."
Adam Lambert tweeted two days after the show, "And listen if it wasn't ur cup of tea--- all good but why is everyone spazzing? Hey - she's doin something right. We all talkin." Then, he added a few hours later, "Hold up! I didn't actually state whether or not I liked @MileyCyrus performance. I merely said she was having fun and to cut her some slack."
Nevertheless, another one of Miley's dissenter, Cyndi Lauper told Brig & Lehmo, "And there she is, a young 20-something trying to prove she can hang with the big boys and girls, you know, basically simulating a 'Girl Gone Wild' video onstage. And I just felt like that was so beneath her and raunchy, really raunchy," adding, "It wasn't even art."
Do you agree with Justin Timberlake's stand on the issue? Or are you also a dissenter like Cyndi Lauper?
