Israeli Gangnam Style - two Israeli soldiers, who were filmed dancing to the beat of South Korean singer Psy's 'Gangnam Style' had been suspended this week for dancing 'Gangnam Style' with a group of Palestinian partygoers at Hebron on Monday, despite being on duty, UPI reported Thursday.
The dubbed "Israeli Gangnam Style" scandal was due to a cellphone cam-recorded video, one of the partygoers took and uploaded, which became an instant web sensation. The video features the two Israeli soldiers, still clothed and armed, dancing with a large group of Palestinian partygoers, and one of them could even be seen hoisted on top of the shoulders of one of the Palestinians.
According to Huffington Post, the two were walking through a dance hall in the Jabara near Hebron when they heard 'Gangnam Style' playing, and rushed to the party to enjoy the moment.
Although everyone in the club as well as the people who have seen the video, were quite pleased with the 'Gangnam Style' stint, an Israeli Defense Force spokesperson said on Thursday that the incident was rather "serious, adding that "the soldiers exposed themselves to unnecessary danger and were disciplined accordingly."
The spokesperson's statement added that it was very inappropriate for on-duty soldiers to go dancing while still in their uniforms and clad with flash jackets and guns. More so, it was very unsuitable for them to party with the Palestinians.
An Examiner report stated that the two Israeli soldiers have been suspended and that the Israeli Defense Force has issued an investigation for the incident, which is now termed as "Israeli Gangnam Style" investigation.
Israel's Channel 2, the one that aired the video on TV, stated that the club in Hebron was frequented by a group of Palestinians famous for its pro-Hamas tendencies.
It can be noted that Hebron has been the venue for violence between the Jews and the Palestinians for many years now.
