Dave Chappelle stopped his headlining performance over heckled audience at Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival in Hartford, Connecticut on Thursday. The video of the incident involving Chappelle became viral as fans online regard the event an "awful" thing to watch, USA Today reported Friday.
Sources said that Dave Chappelle immediately left the stage after hearing the unruly crowd heckling while he was throwing a few jokes for entertainment.
WTNH stated that all the booing and yelling irritated Chappelle that he lit a cigarette, sat down the stage for a few minutes, and then completely left it after noticing how the audience wouldn't stop shouting, yelling, and booing.
According to reports Chappelle even managed to retort a few comments to the audience.
"All right, you guys," Chappelle said shortly after escaping the scene for w few minutes. "I like some of you, I hate some of you. I forgive some of you, but I don't forgive all of you." The audience screams got louder. "You guys have totally ruined my chances of running for Congress or something," Chappelle continued. The noise swelled. Then, Chappelle said "thank you" and "good night" before leaving the stage for good.
Audiences interviewed by Hartford Courant said that Dave was doing fine within the first five minutes. The crowd only became unruly after Chappelle displayed very unnecessary gestures such as interrupting his performance and talking back to the crowd whenever some of them would let out a remark on him.
Courant correspondent Julie Stagis shared that there was "something funny about how he'd hop a plane to South Africa in the morning like he did when he quit 'Chappelle's Show.' Then he started lecturing the audience, insulting everybody rather than just the hecklers. It was like when your teacher says 'I'll wait' and sits there, waiting for the class to be quiet."
