Colonel Meow just might be the latest sensational cat, with 9-inch long fur, to earn a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records 2014, NY Daily News reported Friday.
The internet sensation cat, whose face can be found in almost anywhere, smirking or simpering to almost anything he sees, has been recently named as the cat with longest hair, which measures a full 9-inch length from root to the tip by the Guinness Book of World Records committee.
Colonel Meow is a proud cross-breed of Himalayan and Persian. To clarify and prove if he is really the cat with the longest fur, a committee coming from the award giving body measured his fur's actual length. The committee was composed of three independent veterinarians, and each of them measured the cat's fur.
Eonline reported that 10 different hair strands were used in the examination. They were all measured individually and were added as a single unit afterwards. All the figures led to an average of 9 inches, which is the ideal length for a cat to receive the recognition.
According to reports the 'Longest Fur on a Cat' category is a new one, yet his owners are more than proud to know that he is the first one to claim the spot. "We already knew that he was the best cat in the world, but to be recognized in the Guinness World Records book takes it to the next level," colonel meow's owner said.
The feline's owners, Eric Rosario and Anne Marie Avey, also claimed that there is a great disadvantage of having a cat capable of growing 9 inches of body fur.
Colonel Meow's owners told News Day that because the cat has a rather lengthy and voluminous body hair, they are compelled to do the brushing together, adding that it would usually take them about three times a week..
"Literally everything in the house has hair on it, including us! I feel like I'm always vacuuming!" Anne added.
Apart from snagging the title, colonel Meow is considered as the great rival to Grumpy Cat for the titles as the grumpiest cat ever.
