Lindsay Lohan's new movie 'The Canyons' premiered at the Venice Film Festival today, unfortunately the controversial actress was nowhere in sight when it happened.
According to Yahoo! News, Lindsey Lohan was scheduled to make an appearance during the premiere screening of her new erotic thriller movie 'The Canyons' at the Venice Film Festival.
"For the last 16 months I've been hostage, by own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress. She was supposed to be here today, she said she would be, but she is not," director Paul Schrader said at a news conference.
The Associated Press reported that Lindsey's publicist was not able to provide details on why her scheduled appearance got cancelled last minute.
"She always wanted to come, but for reasons out of her control it did not work out," an insider said in an ABC News interview. "She is very happy the film is showing."
In the movie, the 27-year-old actress plays an aspiring actress, who later becomes the girlfriend of a Los Angeles movie producer, played by movie actor and porn star James Deen. The couple, out of carnal desire, engages in erotic encounters with the people they find on the internet.
'The Canyons' was actually a competing entry for the festival, which is why everyone expected Lindsay's appearance on the event not only to promote it but also to celebrate the realization of the project.
Shraider confessed that Lindsey "stepped up very hard" for the challenging role and did a good job at that; however, the entire process was "exhausting" for the controversial actress.
"One of her problems as an actor is she has a very hard time faking things," Shraider said.
Although she did a no-show on her movie's premiere, Lindsay too time to pay tribute to the event on her personal website.
The 27-year-old actress has been recently involved in illegal substance abuse. She completed her latest rehabilitation last July.
